At 7,000 feet, winter fires aren’t decoration. They’re how Park City homes stay warm through January storms, how ski cabins feel like cabins, and how après-ski evenings happen. Since 1979, Standard Firewood Supply has hauled seasoned firewood from our Salt Lake City yard up Parleys Canyon to homes, condos, vacation rentals, and cabins across Summit County. Winter Heating in the Mountains
Park City winters are long, and a wood stove or fireplace insert can carry a lot of the heating load. If wood is a real part of how you heat, the species matters:
- Oak and hickory are dense hardwoods that burn hot and long and leave a deep coal bed, so a stove holds heat overnight with fewer reloads.
- Piñon is the fragrant favorite for great-room fireplaces. It burns hot, smells like the Southwest, and is what our Park City customers ask for by name.
- Cedar and mountain pine light fast. They’re good kindling and good for quick evening fires and fire pits.
How much? Occasional weekend fires usually use 1/4 to 1/2 cord a season. Fires most nights of ski season often take a cord or more. If a stove is your primary heat, plan on several cords and order early. Our Pricing & FAQ explains cords, and our office will help you size the order.
Ski Cabins, Vacation Rentals, and Property Managers
A huge share of Summit County homes are second homes and nightly rentals. The owner lives in another state, guests arrive on Friday, and somebody has to make sure there’s wood by the fireplace. That’s the call we get most from Park City.
- Stock up before the busy weeks. Book a delivery ahead of Christmas, Presidents’ Day, or a big group stay so the rack is full before guests arrive.
- Managing several homes? Property managers are welcome to call and order for more than one address at a time.
- Access details. When you order, tell us about gates, parking, and exactly where the wood should go.
- Guest-friendly wood. Piñon and seasoned hardwood light easily and burn with less smoke. That means fewer smoky-rental complaints and fewer calls about a fire that won’t catch.
Hot Tubs, Fire Pits, and Outdoor Living
Summit County’s outdoor fire pits and patio fireplaces get used year-round, from snowy hot-tub nights to summer evenings. Stock Up Before the Storms
When a storm cycle parks over the Wasatch, I-80 through Parleys can close or run under traction restrictions, and driveways disappear under the snow. The best time to fill a Park City woodpile is before that happens.
- Order in fall. September through early December is the easiest delivery window. You get the best selection and a woodpile that’s dry and ready.
- Bulk seasonal orders. Many mountain customers order a full season at once, one or two cords per load, so they aren’t calling us mid-storm. Need more than two cords? We’ll schedule back-to-back loads.
- Top off mid-winter. Ran low in February? Call us. Storm days may shift the schedule, but we’ll get you on the next available truck.
Mountain Delivery Notes
- Delivery days: We deliver Monday through Friday. There are no Saturday deliveries.
- Delivery fee: Call for your delivery fee. It’s included in your quote before anything is scheduled.
- Steep and icy driveways: Tell us the grade, whether it’s plowed, and where a loaded truck can safely stop and turn around.
- Weather: Winter storms on I-80 and mountain roads can shift delivery dates, which is one more reason to order early.
- Where the wood goes: A loose pile in a driveway gets buried by the next storm and pushed by the plow. Add stacking and we’ll put it on the porch, in the garage, or under the deck.
Burn Rules in Summit County
Summit County isn’t part of the Wasatch Front’s mandatory winter no-burn program under Utah’s air-quality rule R307-302, so wood heat stays practical here all winter. Outdoor fires are different. Dry summers can bring seasonal fire restrictions on fire pits and campfires, so check with the Park City Fire District and your HOA before burning outside.
